Well, after months and months of raising support and training we ARE FINALLY HEREEEEEEEEE. Of course it’s still just so surreal. We’ve moved into our new apartment (which we love), we’ve been driven around the city, we feel the heat!….. but it just hasn’t set in yet that this will be our home for the next 2 years (at the very least)!!!
We got to Tegucigalpa yesterday around 3 (about 3 hours late) and were greeted by our field directors, Terry and Colleen Hawk, and Jorge. We drove to the guest house (not actually our house……. get it!? A Guest joke? Really……? You don’t get it? Our last name…. You’re no fun!
) for lunch and had some delicccccciouussssss Mexican chicken lasagna. So so good. We then came up to our apartment and started the long process of unpacking and figuring out all that we’ll need to get. This process is of course still happening a day later.
We share a complex with 3 other WGM missionaries which is directly behind the WGM guest house. We’re excited to call this home for the time we’ll be in Tegucigalpa.
Today Terry and Colleen took us out to Walmart to buy all the things we were lacking (trash cans, microwave, food, etc. etc. etc.) While there, all of the sudden, it sounded like a marching band was coming through the store. And… well…. SURE ENOUGH!! A drumline of Walmart employees was marching around the store playing. A typical drumline… base drums, snares, tenors…. What in the WORLD!!!??? Terry looked at me and said, bet you’ve never seen this up in the states! I don’t think it’s a very typical thing, but wow… As we were checking out there were employees on stilts handing out balloons. We collectively assumed some soccer game had been played last night and the result was good. There were a lot of fireworks going off last night. Ash and I assumed they were for our arrival but apparently that wasn’t the case. :(
For lunch we wanted a taste of the local cuisine so we headed over to Pizza Hut. After lunch we went to the fabric store to buy some… well… you got it. Ash will be making curtains for us! Now we’re just relaxing and putting things up. We thought packing was never going to end, now we’re wondering the same about unpacking!
So far we have loved our experience here and can’t wait to finally settle in and start our language learning. Please pray for us during this transition and that I’ll pick up the language pronto!! Thank you thank you thank you thank you THANK YOU so much for supporting us!!! We pray daily that our impact will change the lives of these children forever. We can hardly wait to get out there and start loving on them! Tomorrow we go to Jorge’s church and will try to get involved as much as possible with them during our stay in Teguc.
We love you all, muchas gracias!!!
